What Is Mantrailing?
Think search and rescue meets hide and seek.
Mantrailing teaches your dogs to find a hidden person by following their unique scent trail.
The dogs work the trail using a combination of:
Air scent
Ground scent
Ground disturbance
Environmental cues
As they follow the trail, dogs naturally switch between these different techniques depending on the environment, scent conditions and the information available to them. They are constantly problem solving, making decisions and figuring out the best way to continue the trail and locate their hidden person.
Every trail is different.
Every environment is different.
Every problem is different.
That’s what makes it so addictive for both dogs and owners.
They love the challenge.
Dogs Already Know How To trail
We’re not teaching dogs how to use their nose, they already know that part.
Dogs experience the world through scent, with up to 300 million scent receptors helping them process information in ways we will never fully understand.
What mantrailing does is give them a structured game that allows them to use those natural skills in new ways, new places and new pictures.
More Than A Hobby
Mantrailing is:
Mental stimulation
Physical exercise
Confidence building
Problem solving
Teamwork
Enrichment
Adventure
Fun
All rolled into one…and the best part?
99.99% of dogs absolutely LOVE it.
Mantrailing is unlike any other dog training.
In obedience, agility, scentwork and even tracking, the dog is being guided by their owner.
Mantrailing is completely dog led.
They make decisions, solve problems and work things out for themselves, while we learn to trust them, support them through the process and read what they are telling us.
And trust me… once you see your dog “get it”, you’ll understand why so many people become obsessed with mantrailing.
Those “HOW did they do that?!” moments are incredible.
